All right gang here goes on my thoughts,( Rockfish)give me yours:
Three days must lay one
lines in a 7, lines out 3:30, must weigh by 5:30 or be in the inlett by 5:30
Two weigh stations,rudee, lynnhaven
IGFA rules, boat must weigh by water, all local and gov regs
boundries atlantic ocean
biggest fish, makes it competitive untill the last minute
500 or 1,000 entry fee I vote 1,000
All right who knows how to get it done or thinks anyone would even fish in it,need a good name for it,Let me hear some thoughts,That includes you Bonehead

Just my opinion but i think you would get quite a few more people to enter the tournament if it wasn't soo expensive. 1K for a striper tournament is unheard of that's more along the lines of an offshore tournament for tuna or marlin or something.
Just my thoughts...

40 views one comment ,I guess I know the answer to my suggestions.
Any of us will drop 500.00 on any given day for rods, tackle, fuel etc, even when we are broke or the 'ol ladys says one more rod and Im going to see a divorce lawyer. So I do not get why that is too much,4 or 5 people on a boat whats the problem,150- 200 boats that is a good pay day for 2 days of fishing.

I think it would be tough to compete with the bigger rockfish tournaments that already exist. 150-200 boats is very high expectations.

While I am all for tournaments, I am also about getting a reasonable return on my money. I won't enter a tournament where the entry fee costs more then the operating costs of my boat for a day of fishing. but hey, thats just me. Fuel & Bait for a day of Rockfishin on my boat runs 300-500 dollars, depending on how far we run for the fish. I can't see tripleing that for a 1 in 150 chance at winning a good pot. Call me pragmatic if you want but thats just the way it is.

Alright you asked!!!! I got a question for you HOW ARE WE GOING TO GET 6 PEOPLE TO PAY TO ENTER A TOURNMENT ?? When we can't find 6 that just want to PAY FOR FUEL!!!!! I like the idea of BIG FISH TAKES ALL!!! For this reason after day one everybody will know what they have to beat on day 2 & 3 to win the tournment !!!!! This should cut down on the number of fish bought to the scales & maybe the number of fish killed!!!! I do have to agree with the other guys on here $1000 or $500 is a little to high !!!! I think $300 or less is more likely to get more boats to enter. I like the guys idea of a catch & release shark tournment that was on here the other day I think that would be a fun tournment to fish!!! I don't think anybody else puts one for sharks around here!! I think a overnite tournment would be a good idea maybe a sat nite tournment from 6:00 pm sat. to 8:00am on sun. would be COOL!!!!! And I know you like to catch sharks

You asked !!!!! Bonehead

I couldnt agree more with a tournement. Excellent idea. My opinion is, the lower the entry fee ($300 or so) the more boats you will have enter. This way for a 2-3 day event the cost for gas and other stuff (bait) wont be as big a deal. Its just a weekend of fishing. Just my opinion.

I am for the more expensive the entry fee the better. I have the mind set of how much does it take to feel a win.?? at 300 bucks and 40 boats (more realistic) with 2k for tournament costs that only leaves 10k in the pot. and the usual pay out system of 35 25 15 10 5....... just not worth it. would rather risk more to win more (you got a year to save and plan).
and 2k for tourny fees is prob grossly underestimated (tshirts, dinners etc.)

You should have a talk with Skinny, Billable and marlin maniac.
The stooges have managed to impress the hell out of everyone with what will soon be a world class fishing tournament.
If you guys want to see how to get it done then come and see this august. Im eagerly awaiting this one, last year was very impressive.
Two of these guys are currently out of range in central america, while George is stalking women in SC.

i ran a cobia tournament 2 years ago for a charity same idea...........Winner takes all. everyone enjoyed it. we had 32 boats enter. If your gonna run on you need at least 4 people that are working it with every aspect or it will consume you. ill be happy to let you pick my brain.

I enter the 2 day Rockfish tournament at Colonial beach every year. $150.00 to enter, $5,000 to 1st & it pays to 5th. After expenses, the remainder goes to some charity. Last year there was 158 boats in the tourney if I remember correctly. That tournament has defined boundaries, check-in Check-out procedures, one weigh-station, in short, its one of the best ran tournaments I participate in. Flip side of the coin would be to checkout the one ran by the bay foundation at Deltaville this year. They didn't follow their own rules & alienated half the contestants in the process.
A good well ran tournament with defined rules and reasonable costs will have tons of participants & everyone will have a good time. Charge a lot of money make the rules so some sea lawyer can find a loophole, or make it so you can run from delaware to charleston to find a fish & the only guys fishing the tournament & having fun are the big money guys. How many local guys fish the ASA tournament each year?
I fished 5 Striper tournies last year (one of 'em was a Bluefish/Striper tournament) & not a one of 'em was over $300 to enter. Just a thought.

Capt steve Thanks, that is the kind of response I was looking for.I would like to have a tournament that has a good pay day for more than one place , a good time, fair for everyone, just something a little different, thats why I thought 3 days fishing lay 1 then weather is not as big a deal.Sounds like 300.00 is the number,as far as rules I do not no all the answers, that is what Im looking for, again I DO NOT KNOW how to do it or what is right or wrong.I was hoping someone that did would run with it.If anyone does know how to do it and wants to, lets get it done for next year.
