I have a space on my office wall that I am considering filling with a live mount of the 51-1/2" striper we released a few weeks ago. Can someone help with cost estimates and maybe a vendor.
Thanks,
Mike

The going rate is about 10 dollars an inch additional for open gills or to have its mouth detailed.

Since you released it, it will not be a skin mount. Dave Saunders with Mountain Breeze Taxidermy (757 726 2225) is the most talented I have found for fiberglass mounts most anywhere. He made gorgeous life-like mounts for my All-Tackle World Record Blueline Tilefish, all of my World Record Tautogs, as well as my 11-pound flounder and my Mom's 11-pound spade. He is outstanding!! I won't trust my trophy fish mounts to anyone else! cool.gif

Good luck!!

Greys aren't the cheepest but they have a better coat of paint than most, they look real not over done like some.

He has not done any of my world records...........oh yeah, that's right, I don't have any!! biggrin.gif
Way to go Julie, heck of a resume you have going!! food-smiley-004.gif
I only have 1 striper citation, and a white & a striped marlin, the rest usually involve blue lights & speeding!
I think i'm gonna try to change that this year!....and slow down!! fishhook_ani.gif

Yeah I did an apprentice with a taxiderist when I was 10-12. I gave painting a shot, but he had me start with oil and paint brush. This guy was good. In fact he left and went and worked for a museum for awhile. He said it took him years to learn to paint fish.

All I got trained on were ducks and small game before he left for the museum job.

I think most mounts look real bad, to me it either looks like the fish or it does not.

All mine are Fiberglass now,I did have some old Skin Mounts of LM Bass but they faded and got brittle over time.Swanson did my Tarpon and my Red Drum I caught off False Cape it also looks great.Anthony at Princess Ann dist. can hook you up with him.Chip Waters did a real nice Job on my Cobia but I heard he quit doing Mounts.Im going to have the Grand slam done with all 3 in a design.I just havent figured out how to tell the Mrs. yet.
Here We Go
I caught my first bill fish last spring and had Global Fish mounts make a replica of my sail.

It cost 825 and I enjoy it on my wall as much today as when I caught it!

I got a cobia done a few years ago by Greys. It cost $700, and I still dont like the colors of it. The cobia is more bluish/ green color then brown and white. I cant complain, I didnt send it back. A big dolphin would have looked better on the wall than that old ugly cobia anyway.

Yea my family isnt crazy about my Cobia either.

It is better to ask for forgiveness than permission sometimes. Good luck
