thinking of useing 200lb mono or can I get away with 100lb
have the black string now and want to change when I move the hook point to the gunal well trying to help the mates
Thanks
Buddy

If it's too thin, it will be harder to grip deploying and redeploying. I use 400 lb black on the longs and 400 lb red on the shorts.

400-600# Mono. Lots of chaffing running rigger lines plus UV damage...Ya don't want to see what happens when your rigger line breaks. Some add a small pulley at the tip top only, you need to keep some friction in the set-up to keep the riggers from running down with heavy rigs out. Good Luck.

Buddy...400# Mono minimum...I run two colors also....Blue and Green.....Bob

Buddy, go heavy. Lots of use plus its easier on the hands with heavier mono. Momois makes rigger line that doesn't have stretch in it like mono, BUT I think Bob put it on and didn't like it too well. Putting a small pulley at the top of the rigger makes setting and retrieving much easier.

thanks
400# it is

400 works well. Here is a good article showing a nice setup.

THANKS everyone

short comings
While we are discussing riggers, we have one of our long riggers that keeps sliding back down about 18" or so. Is this due to line being rigged too tight? too loose? Not set high enough?

Appreciate the help. Glad to see the tuna are arriving....Now if the wind would just depart..

THere is a device called a "halylock" that will prevent that issue - seen them advertised in a lot of fishing mag's.

Keith,
I'm sure the Halylock is your best bet. When mine slides back down, its becouse line is to loose. I adjust the tilt to my outrigger, ( loosen, and raise the outside tip.Pushing up.) If you can do that, it tightens up the line and they quit sliding down.
Silver Lining
Keith, another thing to check besides the tension is the relation between the tip of the outrigger and where you have the lines attached to the gunnel. Outriggers are usually swept back so that the rigger line is also swept back instead of straight out to the side. If set this way when the lure pulls on the line it will pull the clip out to the end of the rigger instead of back toward the boat.

Either that or use long line clips.
Cool Change
I just ran them on my new boat and did like Bob said and ran two colors of the 400# Momoi line and they are SWEET! I bought two dark blue spools of 50 yd. for the longs and one spool of the Hi vis yellow for the short riggers. This is enough to do them twice and at only $9.99 a pack is a no brainer from the old black stuff I used to run. I will be able to pick up on which is which quickly at a glance when things get hectic.

I will say that I went with the halocks and didn't think them through all the way in that they become a permanent part of the line as there is just enough room to pass the line through unlike the old double pulleys I used to use where the swivels could work through those. I guess I wont lose them or drop them overboard which I did once Huh? I think that for what they do for the creep they are worth it and one each with both lines fit in the blue mesh bag the Momoi came in and are in my T Top box ready for salt deployment.
