Hatteras harbor website says that they fished today --yellowfins, blackfins and wahoos. They note that it was "breezy". I bet that was true in spades.

Diamond Shoals buoy reporting 21 knots gusting 27 with waves at 6.6 feet.

I saw they said some gaffer dolphin too. But I think your point was, it had to of been a thrill ride getting out the inlet. Then trying to fish.
BUT, It sounds like there is plenty of fish now. Its going to quit soon.

Looks like they headed out and scored on Sunday again...Blackfin, mahi, wahoo and some nice AJ's. Everytime I look at the forecast on NOAA, they move the Small Craft Advisory back another day...now through Friday!!

Yep--I saw that too. Another deep low to be centered over the mid-west by Wed. Likey to begin pumping in some stiff SW by Friday.

I've heard from 2 captains down there that most everything is being caught jigging instead of trolling. FYI.

Thank you, Ford. Do they jig up the blackfins generally or are they sometimes caught on the troll? I am not familar with blackfin tuna having never caught one -although I have heard the are really good eating.

Kent, you can catch blackfins on the troll, but they prefer smaller baits than we normally run. A bare 12 pack hoo or a small Zukers with no meat is a good bet. We used to run out to where the shrimp trawlers were culling their catch to get them when I lived in Tampa. We drifted dead bait when we found the trawlers, otherwise we downsized the baits and did pretty well on the move. Hope this helps.

Ya I heard the same. The blackfins are concentrated over structure. AJ's are down deep with blackfins on top of them.
