Captain Jack
My brother can get one week in the year to come down from Ohio for a shot at tuna (and spades as a consolation prize) .
I told him second week of June, but now I think that may be too early for the best chance at tuna.
Would really appreciate you experienced salts opinions.
Thanks!

Try around the first of July. It seems we are gonna have a bit of a wierd season and IF they are gonna be here, they should be here by then.

If we are talking yellowfin:

My log indicates we caught a few at the Fingers as early as May 31. The earliest we have ever crushed them, is June 10th - 400 line south of the Canyon where we hooked 6 at once - south to the 200 line where we caught several singles. I think the best bet for you, as far as probabilites are concerned, is between 6/22 and 7/4. That is just a guess however - it mostly depends on getting good water and a good defined temp break.

I would say if you have to go earlier - don't ignore bluefins at the the Hot Dog as another approach. Early in June we have caught a ton of footballs there - with a 175 lb "surprise" one day. I don't think they eat as well as yellow fins but make great sushi. The main problems are fighting off hordes of bluefish and the bluefins are mostly catch and release.

Hope this helps

There are certainly some nice one's caught in Sept/Oct, but the problem is you might fish 1 day out of 10 because of windy conditions. Come to think of it, you might fish NO days out of 30 in April this year. I don't think this NE blow will ever end.

I have Painting and Varnishing half way done that is why the weather has been so bad. As soon as I start a weather dependent project it always rains at biblical proportions. We do need the rain lets get it over with now so we can have a clear Summer and Fall.

Thanks for the great info, Kent. I am having him try to reschedule for last week of June, first week of July. I am trying to talk him into moving from Ohio. Catching a nice fish would sure help the argument!
