Do you mean right now, or in general where is a good place to catch?

If you mean right now I have no ideas as 3 trips in a row without a keeper will a test, but later on in the year the heavy structure of the lower bay is a good place to find them, the wrecks, the islands of the CBBT and under the Ocean Side Bridge of the CBBT have produced the best for me. Thats my two cents.

If you run father up the bridge closer to the 1st island on the ocean side there are some rocky spots that hold good numbers of flounder later in the year, took a 26" off their last august. Be ready to loose some gear though, a couple of those rock piles are nasty. Tight Lines,

I'm getting a late start again saturday, but I'll be out there.

That spot always seems to produce for me, it's never too crowded either.

Those rock piles are also called the Yancy Wreck. The Yancy was a Navy ship that was blown into the bridge in a gale way back in the '60's. The ship didn't sink, but they had to add the rocks to stabilize the bridge span where the ship hit. Since then that spot has been referred to, and is labeled on some charts as, the Yancy Wreck. It's also known for holding tog. That's my CBBT trivia lesson for the day!

That's why I could never find the "Yancey" wreck! If I hadn't read this post, I'd still be looking for it. unsure.gif

I feel as though my day is now complete. Thanks for that bit of info. So where is the pepsi truck located?

Just kidding good bit of info and there was a pepsi or coke truck that went off the bridge a while (years ago) back don't think it is still down there though.

Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel incident
Toward the end of her career, Yancey made headlines. On 21 January 1970, Yancey, at anchor near one stretch of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel near Norfolk, dragged her anchors in a snowy gale and, driven by the winds that gusted up to 50 miles an hour, drifted inexorably toward the span. The collision between the attack cargo ship and the bridge put the later out of service "for at least three weeks." The Navy started up a free shuttle service for commuters that normally utilized the bridge-tunnel, using helicopters and LCU's. Fortunately, there were no vehicles on the bridge, and no one was injured.

Subsequently, Yancey deployed once more to the Mediterranean in the spring of 1970. She returned to the United States that summer and entered inactive status at Norfolk on 1 October of that year. Placed out of commission, in reserve, there on 20 January 1971, Yancey was towed to the James River berthing area for the National Defense Reserve Fleet on 18 March 1971. She remained there until her name was struck from the Navy list sometime between 1 October and 31 December 1976.

She was sunk as an artificial reef off Morehead City, NC, 1990. Laying on her starboard side at a depth of 160 feet.

Caught 3 from the pier at the James river bridge yesterday afternoon on the incoming tide. 2 were around 15" and the 3rd was 19 1/2". Another guy that was next me lost another one that looked be lower to mid 20's. I am thinking of taking the boat out to that area and trying my luck on sat. It was great not seeing any of those pesky dogfishes being caught. Well good luck out this weekend and be safe, hope to see great reports on Monday.
