We got out of Lynnhaven at 6 AM but the wind was blowing so hard we couldn't get out to the CBBT until almost 1pm or so.
We drifted with the tide inside the inlet for about an hour or so and caught nothin. (were looking to cast net for bait but at high tide and early in the season, there was nothing to catch - the creeks that were stuffed with finger mullet in Oct. were bare. Was like mother freakin' hubbard!) We then stuck around the mouth of the inlet after getting forced back (beaten and soaked) from the waves (curse of the flat bottomed boat). Caught a yard full of grass waiting for the wind to lay down.

We had been on the water for almost 7 hours and up to that point had caught absolutely zero.
When we finally got out to the bridge near the small boat channel, we caught a bunch of small blues (fed them a lot of lures while doing so). The croaker bite stepped up in the early evening (was the first real tug on the line I felt all day!). Then we landed a black drum ~ 12lbs on a small spinning rod

near the small boat channel (on a bottom rig with squid). Oh, almost forgot, the freakin' skates were relentless, my bro in law must have pulled in over 15 on the cut bunker we were using.
No flounder, no reds, no bass - on the bright side, no sharks, no oyster toads and no dogfish!
