NEW Pending IGFA World RECORD Blackbelly Rosefish
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8 May 2008
Announcement
Dr. Julie Ball
IGFA Representative, Virginia Beach
I got the call at about 11:20 last night from CAPT Jim Brincefield from abaord the Jil Carrie. He and his co-crew of CAPT Darren Foster and CAPT Mark Wray were on thier way in from a deep drop trip at the Norfolk Canyon, with a large fish that may be a world record. CAPT Steve Wray met them at the dock at Long Bay Pointe Bait and Tackle (Official IGFA Weigh Station) at near 1am, and weighed in a 4lb 3oz Blackbelly Rose fish, which beats the old record of 3lbs 11oz. This may very well be the next pending All tackle world record for this species. The angler's name is William Davis of Forestville, MD.
We will complete the IGFA verification process today.
Congrats to a great crew and a great captain on another probable world record!
More info and pics to come!!
Julie

That is great news. I just showed my daughter the fish, and she wants to know why it has chicken feet???

Aren't they adorable? They do look like feet, but they are actually the pectoral fins.

OK. I actually was gonna raise the B*ll S**t flag on ya DR. J but after a quick google search I see I was wrong and will admit I just learned of a new fish.
I know, damn yankee.
Congrats to the Capt for putting the Angler on the fish and congrats to the Angler.

Wow I just read that they can live over 40 years! That was an old fish. Are they going to do Otolith study to see how old it was?

Yep, the Captain is holding the fish in case they want it to study. We are in the process of contacting them.
