Hey guys. I've been offshore fishing a number of times on charter boats but I'm hoping to start taking my boat (26 ft Striper) out offshore and would just like to get some info/tips on having successful fishing trips. Thanks.

Welcome to the board!!! Things are just starting to take off offshore in VA waters.

First thing you want to have is a chart...Capt Segaulls is the favored among anglers. They show both GPS numbers and Loran TD lines which most capts use when referring to where they are fishing. Use that chart to get yourself familiar with locations like Norfolk Canyon, Cigar, 44 Fathom Wreck, Fingers, Hot Dog, etc.

Check the VBSF How-To Forum for frequently used weather sites, water temp sites tide predictions, etc...How-to Forum

For fishing tips, check the VBSF Knowledge Center ( Knowledge Center ) for tips on specific fish.

You'll get lots of tips from the reports posted of where to go find fish. Also check the weekly Offshore Rundown on the homepage each Friday.

But most important, do what you just did, ask questions. Lots of great anglers on this site willing to help out, so ask away. Here's to a great, safe season!!

Welcome Dan. Also come to some of the Meet & Greets for demos and getting the info first hand. Watch the Board for details. Now that the fishing is kicking into high gear the schedule is a bit tricky to work in, but if the weekend weather sucks a monthly Meet & Greet is a strong possibility!
Sharp hooks and Tight lines.

Look for chart number CMCH20...It covers from Cape May, NJ to Cape Hatteras, NC.
