Full Version: Secrets to getting floats in the squid tubes!

There has to be an easier way! I am trying to rig floating squid bars like Canyon Runner uses and I must have too large a float! I spent an hour or more getting 7 floats into 7 rubber squid! I've used dish soap and K-Y jelly and tried to push them in. I may have to shave my floats down.

If there is some simple trick for this I sure would like to know it! I haven't tried turning the squid inside out and rolling it down like a sock. I have torn one squid body trying to get the stuck float out. If some one has a source for smaller floats for the small 6" squid I would be interested!

I like catching fish on lures I rigged, but this is a little tough!

Dad, go one size smaller on the floats, it should slide easily into the hollow body of the squid. The float does not have to fill the entire body cavity of the squid, it just needs to keep the body from completely collapsing and add some bouyancy. Hope this helps!

walmart has small floats 5 pack for $1.08 something that worked for me was to put the squid tubes in a sink full of hot water. it will soften them up. then hold it under water and put the float in. cover the hole in the float with your finger. the water traped inside will help expand the tube as you push the float in. hope this helps Paul.

I must have the wrong floats. Which Walmart has the little ones?

Thanks for the help! I was about to resort to just buying the tuna in a can in the grocery store!!!!!

I normally get the bulb squid at PA distributing, and they have all the size floats right next to the squid.
Captain Jack
Thanks, I'll get them there.
