Saturday we weren't booked, and it was too hot to sit inport so I got my First Mate and a buddy and we got underway around noon in search of Flounder and Striper. The fishing was slow, but everything we caught was quality size. We caught our limit in Striper to include our three Trophy fish ranging from 35" to 36", only one slot fish at 31" released and the rest of them where between 26" and 28". We only caught one flounder and it went 22". The croaker bight was the only fast bight we had all day. We stopped outside Little Creek Inlet to restock our live well and Caught 60 bait sized croaker, 1 Big croaker for the cooler, 1 little Shark and 1 Spanish Mackerel around 18" all in about 15 minutes. We where Back in the slip by 7:30 PM.

I thought the biggest surprise catch of the day was the Spanish. We were bailing croaker at the mouth of Little Creek when I lost a croaker and was reeling in fast to check the bait and WHAM hit and run and up comes a Spanish on a top and bottom rig. I've heard some had been caught already. I haven't trolled for them yet myself. Has anyone hit them trolling in the bay yet?

We stuck around the 1st and 2nd islands, no striper only small flounder, sea bass and croaker. Fished small live spot 3" range and med sized croaker for the flounder, and cut bait landed the sea bass. SM to MD croaker are everywhere if you want them. I knew I should have run out to the 3&4 but late start time led to my decision. Glad you guys did well, were you guys drifting to tube up by 3 & 4?

We caught all our fish at the 1st and 2nd Island between noon and 7. Live bait for the striper and Jigging for the flounder.

Fish Bites seem to work the best, even over real squid or bloodworms out in the bay on the drift, but it seems in the harbor the real stuff works better. When we took the Boy Scouts out we had cut bait and fish bites. The croaker were slow to hit the real stuff, but the kids using the fish bites where bailing them. They eventually all shifted over to the fish bites.
