went out today targeting blackdrum around the islands. We shot to the second early there was still a haze overhead so there was little visibility in the water so we decided to roll over the the 4th to burn a little time and let the sun get a little higher. So we get to the fourth and wow. huge schools of spadefish. And when i say huge there were schools in the 30's, and these fish had some size to them. There were also some good numbers of blacks around the island to although they were real skittish and they spooked real easy. We weren't prepared for the spades but we gave the blacks a shot. I figured they would be there but i thought they would be a little bigger. My buddy landed one he was about 28 in and still had his stripes. we did see a couple schools of slightly bigger blacks cruising but no monsters. Eventually we saw blacks and spades at the 3rd and 2nd islands but nothing like the fourth. a little surprise caught us as we shot over the tube at the 4th to hit the bayside of the island i spotted a really nice size cobia hanging out just past the rocks were the water rips around. We casted some bucktails and swim baits to him which he investigated and casually swam off never to be seen again. Mr Brown Is A Wanted Man If Seen PLEASE APPROACH WITH CAUTION
Anyway that was today in a nutshell, beatiful day on the water regardless.
