I've heard it works, and I've even tried it a few times, but no joy.

try it at 11-16 knots. good way to cover ground if wahoos are in the water

The speeds Randy mentioned are a good sweet zone. Get some heavy lures and trolling sinkers. Have a safety line attached to your rod, just in case. Great way to land wahoo, but also mahi, tuna and bills. Running 2-4 baits is ideal. Good luck!!

I have used black cedar plugs at 18 knots just before the 21 f finger and caught bluefin have caught them all the way up to 20 knots. The wahoo can be caught on weighted jet heads up to 20 knots but 18 seems to work the best and all ways used dark colors black and purple or just black.

I've caught many wahoo at 20 knots using a heavy high speed trolling lure fished way back. Used to deploy it any time I was running offshore. Took a hit one day near the Cigar, cranked it in and all that was there was the lower jaw of a small wahoo impaled on the hook. Ripped the lips right off that sucker!

We tried it last year at 15mph. We had 3 knockdowns-2 were small dolphin that jumped a few times and shook the hook. The other hit took the lure about 50 yards to the side and stayed near the surface. When we got the lure back, it had a couple small scrapes and no teeth marks, so we figured it was some sort of billfish. At that speed, the Moldcraft standard Wide Range and the Kona Classic ran best. Both dolphin hit the Wide Range, the billfish hit the Kona Classic. The 2 other lures we dragged were high speed wahoo lures, but at the time we didn't have any heavy cigar weights, so they popped out of the water too much. We probably won't try it again this year, because it uses a lot of fuel.

Here are 2 new lures that GRL offers which are great for hi-speed or "sporty" conditions trolling. Along with the "Heavy D", the "Dark Side" and "Fast Lane" round out a hi- speed spread.

I belive the brand is called wahoo king but it works well if we get screwed up in rought weather or some other reason we can only go a limited speed we'll put 2 bent butts off the back with jet heads and a dredge weight. 11-16 is where the larger hoo's come anything above will be smaller 10-30 lbs just rember to have a lot of line on the reels and a watchfull eye if the clicker isn't LOUD!!!!
