How far off the coast of Virginia do you have to go to get the first weed lines, or opportunities to hook some mahi mahi and/or kingfish?

Try starting around the Triangle Wrecks...about 25-30 nm out. Good chance of Kings and when water is warm enough, some smaller mahi. I believe the mahi bite has been out a little further over the Fingers, about 40 miles out.

This is good advice -but I would add the Fishing Center is hanging a lot of kings -I notice a some nice bluefins hanging with them too--looks like the Hot Dog kind of fishing to me - sometimes Jun can be good there - short run too - maybe 2 weeks late?

Last year starting around this time we would pick up alot of kings trolling east to west along the 430-440 line going from around 14-1
7 fathoms into 9-10. they would only hit on the east to west troll, never the other way. Would also pick up a small football size tuna here and there at about the same location.
