Yes and no. Tuna bite here has been none existant...yellowfin that is. Bluefin bite has been pretty good around the Fingers/Hot Dog area with boats catching and releasing up to a dozen and keeping their 2 slot fish, some topping 100 pounds. A mass of Yellowfin went right past us up to the nothern canyons and fishing has been great for those guys. Talked with Phil from G&H Lures yesterday. He and family are in OI for the week. He saw 25 boats return from offshore grounds and only 5 tuna between them...this is not a banner tuna year.

Life is rough Wessner. Don't forget to wipe your feet before you enter before you enter the salon and bring an extra towel for the mister on the mezzanine.

i was kind of joking. forgot about the bft. Yeah there here on the dog and fingers but the yellowboys are already gone. The school don talked about was about a month ago. Not many since. OI has tumble weeds going through the tuna grounds. Best bet is to fish for something pointy. They don't mind bath water.

I got inspired from bobdu11's posts about the BFT at the hotdog, I know how he and stillthinking are usually all over the fish as I have followed his posts throughout the last years. So I decided to go an ran my first offshore trip to the hot dog in search of some of those tunas in the new 23seahunt.. got a little late start and didnt get our first baits in the water till around 730 @ the hotdog.. starting trolling east and had one on within 15mts... BFT, She went 43"... had a few more knockdowns and caught a few dink dolphin till about 1030ish and then the bite knocked off. Packed up and headed back at around 2, wanted to get back early to maybe fish tomorrow. Pretty much only fished at the hot dog vicinity in around 100-150feet of wate, at 77-78degrees. Did not want to leave fish to find fish. the ride back was glass... i mean slick as chum.. Had her rolling at 45 knots the whole way back comfortably. So i talked to a buddy and he said I never even made it to the blue water and all the fish are out on that color change, where the water is 73-74. So Bobdu do you think it is worth running the whole way to the canyon if I venture out tomorrow. It is calling for a s wind @10knts.. Is that where you think the fish are? And also do you think the best bite is when the sun is rising , to early morning. Seems like that was when all the action was and everyone around us was into them also. Just thinking if it is best to get out before sunrise and fish the morning and pack it up by noon cause then your just pissin in the wind. Any validity to that?
I would like to get into some heavier game.. Appreciate all the help I can get.. Can you steer me on course.. I got some pics to post of our catch as well. Thanks also to all other vbsf members for showing the way.
