We tried to win it all !! Left OC at 4:00am and made a decision to fish south towards the Triple 0's. Water was great for about a hour then things got quite snotty. Lines in at 7:30 after about 5 minutes Bam. Short goes off with a 12lb mahi. Ok !! Here we go. Trolled for about a 1/2 hour and the other short goes off. 23lb Mahi !! Oh yeah ! Then things slowed down for a while and the short goes off again....Jeff cranks on a 70.7 citation Yellowfin. Now we are excited.. All we need is one more tuna and we have the tourney in the bag... That Tuna never showed up. We tried But alas. No Tonnato ! I think we held our own, And it was a blast to fish with everyone. The Crew was Jeff, Todd Beck, Mike Huddelson and myself. We got meat, drank beer, shot a pistol and almost gave Jeff A heart attack with a cruel Joke.

You guys should not mix tuna and guns! You bunch of hillbillies
skinnys-kid
Great day for you guys Jeff! That was a beast of a yellowfin. Congrats on the day. Who's got the pics??
Marlin Maniac
I don't know Eric. Tuna run together in packs, terrorize those smaller than themselves, all are dressed the same, some wear blue, others wear black or yellow, usually leave sign where they have been....sounds like a gang to me. Good reason to be armed. unsure.gif LOL! I would hate to have to explain that to a Coast Guard boarding party though.....
G&H Lures
It was a great day! Had fun fishing with Todd, and the 2 Jeffs. I just wish we could have picked up one more Tuna!!!

I do have a question though, this is totally hypothetical... If a member of the crew happens to have a pistol on his person, purely for self defense of course, would this pose a probelm with the coast guard?
peejcj8
I would think that you would be fine with the Coast Guard, but Im not sure what I would do if they boarded me and I was wearing a pistol.

But they take an oath to defend the constitution of the United States, it should be cut and dry.

I know the beach police/military know if you have a concealed handgun permit or not, by looking at the computer.
Andrew K
if you have a concealed hand gun permit you are fine. just politely tell the coast guard that you have it. if they ask you. biggrin.gif

when you have a CWP the state police flag's your drivers license and licesne plates, so when you get pulled over it alerts them so they can use "more caution"....not sure if this happens as well when you register a boat in your name....

we have some coasties on here, good question for them.
skinnys-kid
I think they usually ask right away before boarding. I remember when I was fishing the CBBT in my boat and approached, that was the first thing they asked. I'm sure if you ahve a permit, you'd be fine. Lots of capts carry, mostly for sharks, but you never know what can go down out ther.
Ktrain
from my understanding you can have a gun, without a permit, it just can not be hidden.
peejcj8
Yep virginia law, you can open carry a handgun. Just no one does it.

I was looking for trouble... I was gonna bust a cap in a mermans ass !
