Fished on Tom's boat yesterday. I was going to wait for the Captain's report, but I wanted to go ahead and get the video up. We had a fun day, catching 50#+ class bluefin. We also caugh two peanut dolphin. Then we had a knock down on the port side long rigger, and as Paul was trying to clear the short rigger that one got nailed too!!! Both of those fish were lost almost right away. We were fishing the fingers, and I'm sure Tom will elaborate on that. All and all a great day and great crew, including the two new guys that came out.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention we lip gaffed and released one of those bluefin healthy. And I'm not 100 percent positive about the weight of the fish. The one we took home was weighed on a 50 lb scale and maxed it out.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. I'm still fairly new to the offshore game, but I've definitely been trying to pay my dues. I have yet to catch my first tuna, but, I did catch my first dolphin this go around... lol... It was one of the two peanut dolphin we caught. We drew numbers for reeling order. I drew number two and it went peanut dolphin, peanut dolphin, tuna, tuna, and then the two hook ups we had that didn't stay tight. We also saw one break water inbetween the teasers 20 feet off the stern. I've learned alot on Billable Ours and The Volunteer this year, and I hope to be able to get back out there in August. Here's my first dolphin!!! Pic taken on Tom's dock when we got the boat back to his house Sat. evening... HAHUMMM,,, HOLD THE APPLAUSE LADIES AND GENTS, I ALREADY KNOW SHE'S A MONSTER!!!!!!!!!!! LOL.. More pics to come. Hope everybody did well in the tournament this weekend.

Congrats Ryan on your first offshore fish!! They'll get bigger! Awesome job Tom and crew! Nice class of fish. Looks like those Get Reel Mini Bars were the ticket yet again! Way to go guys!!

Sorry for not posting sooner, but Ryan has just about covered it. Water temp was 74.5, and the seas were 4-6 swells about 10 secords apart, with about a 2 foot chop on top.

The 2 bailers (or hoisters since we weren't bailing) came about 5 miles west of the 21 fathom finger, and both bluefin were picked up northeast of the 21 fathom finger between the 21 fathom finger and a wreck called Eidswold. Both tuna hit Don's blue and white mini-bar. Those mini-bars are the ticket, I tell you!!

Wish we could've at least seen what didn't come tight, but best guess was a bill of some sort.

Good trip with great crew!

Thanks Don!!!! Have to send respect to Get Reel Lure Co.! That's the first offshore fish I've put in the boat anyway, well, besides from a bunch of tile fish from out at the Canyon, but that doesn't count. I had a nice sized swordfish hooked on the Rudee Angler last winter, I got the thing to finally stop the first run, then the guy whose rental pole it was hooked on wakes up from a 6 hour nap to come out and claim his pole!!!! lol Needless to say we lost that fish. I'll never hand a pole off again REGUARDLESS!!! Anyway. Yeah, we put out one of you fender teasers Don. It was one Jason won as a prize at some event. You had it weighted with a 20 oz sinker, and the swivel on the sinker ended up breaking. It looked pretty good up until then, hell, it fooled Red one time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lololol

great job Tom and crew. Nice work on the video.

Ryan,

We've found that big bank sinkers are better than the ones with the swivel. Just get a new bank sinker anywhere from 16 oz and up and double zip-tie it to the lip on the fender. She'll be back in action. I'm a big believer in those fender teasers...they certainly don't spook fish!
