Left Long Bay Pt. at 4:15, headed to the hot dog. Not much happening, so we headed towards the fingers. Fish On! Small gaffer comes to the boat, only to give a last effort leap & spit the hook right at us. Oh well. I turn the boat around as Wade re-rigs, getting back on our marks & the screen looks good. I think we may have been able to pull a couple of dolphins out of it. All of a sudden, we are dead in the water. Both engines shut off as if you turned the key! Still had all electronics, it didn't sputter, and both engines at once. That rules out fuel issues. Put it in neutral & fires up fine. Don't want to temp it, so we get everything up & head in. But what could connect those engines, they run off different batteries? They are like 2 seperate operations, ignitions are not connected. I looked at my books on the ride in. Called my dad, he's a diesel mechanic, & he says the same thing. Nothing (other than the parallel soleniod) connects them that he knows of. I call Bob @ Chesapeake Cove Marina in Deltaville. He knows the boat & has worked on it for years before we bought it. I get his son, BO, he says the HALON system may be the problem. After looking at the brochure, yes, it has an automatic engine shut down option on it. This is the connection between the ignitions. I cannot find the system any where, so Bob says to disconnect from the panel box the Fireboy system. Went out for a test run yesterday, & it seems to be ok. I hope this fixes uor problem. We plan to remove the complete system on the next haul out. Also gonna run new direct ignition wires.
NOW, AS FOR WHAT NOT TO DO ON AN OFFSHORE TRIP.
YOU DO NOT WANT TO FALL ASLEEP AND PUT YOURSELF IN A POSITION TO BE MADE A FOOL OF.
I thought I was going to pee my pants when Wade did this to our buddy Stanley.
Can't wait to see his reaction when I give him the pics.
We'll be back out there next week. Hopefully with pics of something a little more appetising than Wade's ass!
