Great fish and catch. Are you sure it was killed, I heard it was released?? I'm with you on the releasing, though...better to take some pics and let it swim anyway...not going to eat it and can easily have a fiberglass mount made. But like you said..to each their own.

The angler probably didnt intend on killing it, its just almost impossible to revive a tarpon from a pier.

It would be hard to catch .... and release a hugh Tarpon ..... from a pier.
They are so rear on piers here that I definitely forgive them if they didn't release ....... Congratulation guys!!!!

True, plus an hour fight puts a hurting on a fish like that.

When i first heard about it, it got me thinking. I thought that tarpon were release only in VA, but it looks to me there are no rules for tarpon other than release only for citation. Im sure those fish are hard to revive. Black drum give me a hard time. I lost one while trying to revive it one time and it floated to another boat, they netted it and revived it for me.

I read all about that on another board earlier. According to a guy that was his buddy, and was supposedly there first hand, he definitely kept it. He was supposedly going to be having it mounted. That's just what I read anyway. They had that video in the same post as well.

The fish was not returned to the Ocean as they took it to Rudee to get the final weight as Sandbridge didnt have the scales,,, also he was to have it mounted. Great catch indeed as that is a catch of a lifetime, kinda like the lottery.

From what I hear, there have been a total of 3 tarpon hook ups. Two were lost, and the only one landed was the one in the picture. As far as I know the one in the video was caught on a live blue fish on a pin rig.
