Well this weekend was the Bluewater Classic. We began on Friday

Friday-Decided to go for Cobia first. At the captains meeting thur night I was informed that I must be using circle hooks at anything 3 plus miles offshore. So thursday night I am snelling hooks way past midnight lol. Friday am we hit rudee inlet at around 630. We throw the 8ft cast night a few times with no results. Then my man, Dylan, hefts out the 12ft net and makes one cast only to load our boat all the way up with tons of huge bunker and about 30 or so spot. Offshore we go now. We set up just past the dump site out of rudee inlet on a wreck and get a NICE slick rolling. At 0800 lines go in and about 20 mins later a reel goes off. Now not familiar with fishing circle hooks, we had to get schooled quick. The fish was on and came up to the boat close enough to see it was a nice cobia then off the hook i was. After that we went 15 for 15 on sharks. Circle hooked in the corner of the mouth each time. We got tired of this gig so we ran from here to CLT and CLT reef. 2 boats at the light tower but one boat must of had 9 divers in it so the tower was surrounded with divers. We dropped a few lines and didnt have any luck. Searched around for the man in the brown suit with no results. Ran out to tower reef and dropped down and managed a few nice sea bass and some rays. Next stop was the Santore. I figured we would hit it on the way to CH. We got right over some nice marks there and managed some nice sea bass. Also my buddy hooked something NICE. He had 12lb test on a spinning setup and it had him doubled over for a good 10 mins with some great runs. Ended up breaking off but was good for some footage. After a little pullage we headed to the Cape and managed alot of blues and a single spanish of .5 lbs. lol At weigh-ins team citation had a .6lb spanish. Good job guys and nice boat. I love cape horns.

Saturday-Cobia went to the back burner today. South we headed. Had a late start this am due to water in the Duskys fuel tank again. We ran down twords Sandbridge and managed some nice spanish on the troll down here around the 1.2-1.3lb range. This gave us the lead at weighins for about 10 mins until another boat weighed in a 1.5lb Spanish. Then we trolled all the way down to the NC/VA line. We had 2 kings come up into our spread of various types of spanish lures but did not hook up on any of them. Saw alot of people down that way trolling though for kings. Our best luck came in the sandbridge area about 12-20 ft of water all on silver. Nothing on gold once again. We even got 1 spanish on a king spoon. After we had some in the box we decided to head out in search of Cobia again. While down near the line we did drop on a wreck or 2 just for some fun. We managed to get a nice squid to follow a bucktail to the boat where i netted his butt and in the livewell he went. We ran back up to the A buoy off sandbridge and the squid lasted one cast. Something nailed it and got him. We did not see any cobia all day but there were some NICE schools of rays out off of Sandbridge. If i had to bet money on the Cobia fishing grounds to target now it would be anywhere off of sandbridge.

All and all we had the most fun i think possible. Cant say enough good things about the guys on my crew. I think we were laughing from the time we left the house until we got the boat cleaned up. Also cant say enough for those of you involved in this tournament esp. Don and George. Great job. Looking foward to tonite.

DFurman,

I'd like to thank you again for the bait Friday Morning. You saved me from getting my net wet. Your right about the cobia off the sandbridge. I wasn't in the tourny but here is my Thursday, Friday, & Saturday run down:
Thurdsay one 20lbs cobia in the boat and one 80+ in the chum line but wouldn't eat
Friday one 20lbs cobia in the boat and one 40+ lost at the gaff
Saturday two 20lbs in the chum neither would eat
All off the Sandbridge
Thanks again
