Ran out of Rudee around 5am Sunday with Greg(1greenthumb), Troy, and some other friends. Waves going out were a bit choppy, some 6-7ft'ers in the mx, but swelled out as we got deeper. Started at the weather bouy hoping to find some meat real quick, then switch over looking for some bills.... 30 min or so into trolling have a nice run on a naked circle hook rig, Greg grabs the rod, nice dropback, and hook is set. Turns out to be a 40lb or so dolphin, which is peeling line off a 25TLD. Belt up Greg, and 20 min or so later have him to the transom, 2 ft from having a gaff shot, hook pulls..... smilie_daumenneg.gif .......wasnt a pretty sight watchin that monster swim away, almost jumped in after him.....

Continue to circle the area for a while, but no more takers, so we worked our way north, covering 40-100 fath, zigging and zagging.....End of the day we are at the Southern tip of the Canyon, lots of pilot wales, birds, sunfish, etc....but no more fish. Seas calmed down and had some nice swells to ride home in, back at the dock by 7:00 or so...
Only saw one other boat in the Canyon, rest of the day was all alone. Oh well, get em next time.

Sorry to hear about loosing that mahi that close to the gaff. Sometimes I wonder if its better to loose the fish when you haven't seen it. Great report! You guys heading out this weekend??

Sucked for sure, wish we hadnt have seen him!! Unless there are some better reports in the near future, we might wait a few weeks and see how the fishing progress's......Love to see some tuna move in thick, cant be too much longer! Who knows...

Joe,
Sorry to hear that Mahi was lost so close! Greg sounds like he is continuing to be a great asset on board, as we have enjoyed having him fish with us several times! We all need just a little bit more luck and a little turn-on of fish. It'll be here, soon I hope.
Tight lines and sharp hooks.

Yea, Greg hooked him on the dropback, and played that fish well. Thought we should run circle hooks to practice since it is a little diff than J hooks, but Im not into practicing on 40lb+ Bulls!!! Oh well......you win some you lose some....
