This is my buddy and boat owner Bill Funk's post from our trip today. We really saw about 30 sails working bait balls. I thought I was in Guatemala all over again. But, as the NE wind slowed so did the tuna bite. Non existant today.
Boat: Reel Fancy
Crew: Conner, Carson, Eric, Bert, Jake & me.
Great to be back. Got my knee fixed & also finished up all the rest of the boat wrenching. We should be in good shape from here on out & look forward to the fall bite.
Today was just a super nice weather day to hang out with great friends. We had all hoped for some of that great Tuna action that went on during the NE blow but today was dead calm (not so great for Tuna fishing) & the area where the Tuna had been had too much current today. We ended up fishing for the Sails between the 610-645 from 100-300 fathoms. Man were they thick out there. We were not rigged for them cause of the high hopes for Tuna fishing but did our best with what we had. Ended up only catching 1 but hooked a bunch & saw atleast 15. Just a ton of fun with a great crew. We also ended up getting 2 out of 3 nice Wahoo + some smaller Dolphin bites throughout the day. Down below @ the Point the water was alive with Bonitas, Fliers, birds & great tide lines with grass lined up. Just text book stuff & there were plenty of small Dolphin along the rips but the elusive Tuna we were all hoping to find around the birds & Bonita were no where to be found today. I have a good feeling that things will come back together in this area soon.
I can't tell ya how great it was to be out there today. Man it's nice to be back. Thanks for all the help from my friends getting the boat finished. All the hard work getting everything dialed in has really come together. Bring on the fall.
I didn't have a camera today but maybe Eric has a couple of the hoo's & Sail.
