Deep Elem
Recently Deep Elem suffered a minor engine issue so we headed out wu=ith a friend on a very nice and fast 57 footer out of Hatteras. Going from our 26 Regulator to a big sportfish was definitely different and it is hard to put a value on AC, couches, and a kitchen at sea. Are lines hit the water around 7:00 and around 7:15 the starboard close rigger starts screaming but as soon as I pick up the rod he's gone. Then the starboard far rigger goes nuts, this time its FISH ON! The leaping fish was pretty far back so the captain and my dad started betting on what type a fish it was. Convinced it was a dolphin, the captain laughed when I called it, it was a sailfish and we caught it within fifteen minutes of lines in. The mahi action was good until about 10:00 and we boated several. The bite slowed and we trolled till about 1:30. For the first time this summer we found large grass lines and clumps. We stopped at one of the larger ones and threw out some chunked bait while one of us tossed a spinning rod loaded with cut ballyhoo. Landed bailer size dolphin in seconds, keeping him on to bring the rest of them in, we proceeded to fill the cooler until the fish stopped feeding. We trolled a little more and then headed home. Not too bad, not too bad at all.
G&H Lures
Sounds like a great day! Good job!
