Hard Rockin
Launched at Owl's Creek Saturday, and headed to the Canyon. Lines in around 7 am. Had a consistent Dolphin bite, until we ran short of Ballyhoo. Then we started bailing near a crab pot bouy. The action was on! My son caught 7 dolphin on a medium spinning reel, with 12 lb braid. We a lost a few dolphin at the boat, but ended up with 19 Bailer Dolphin, 4 Tiny Tunas, and 1 Bonita.

There is a minimum size limit on tunas. 27" curved fork length if I'm not mistaken! Maybe someone else can chime in on this.

Recreational Atlantic Tunas Retention Limits
The recreational daily bluefin tuna (BFT) retention for limit for HMS Angling and HMS Charter/Headboat vessels (while fishing recreationally) is 1 BFT/vessel/day/trip, measuring 27 to less than 47”, and 1 BFT/vessel/day/trip, measuring 47 to less than 73" CFL. This limit effective through December 31, 2008. These BFT retention limits are effective for all areas, except for the Gulf of Mexico. The Gulf of Mexico is designated as a spawning grounds for BFT and therefore NMFS does not allow vessels, commercial or recreational, to target BFT while fishing in this area. However, HMS Angling and HMS Charter/Heaboats are eligible to retain 1 BFT (73 inches or greater) per vessel per year as a “trophy” fish for the boat. This fish may be retained in the Gulf of Mexico if it is caught incidentally while pursuing other species. The recreational yellowfin tuna daily retention limit is 3 yellowfin/person. The minimum size for yellowfin and bigeye tuna is 27" curved fork length. There are no recreational limits for bigeye, skipjack or albacore tunas.

I got the above off the HMS site... So as long as the tunas were bigeye, skipjack, or albacore, they were ok to keep em. Nice job on the fish guys. I know your boy had a blast with those mahi!!

yea there is so whats your point
SALTY LADY
DELKINS,
MY POINT WAS, AN INNOCENT MISTAKE CAN BE A COSTLY ONE. I'M NOT CRITIZING YOU GUYS. I'M SURE, AFTER READING THE G&H POST, HE HAD ONE OF THE NON REGULATED SPECIES. IT'S GREAT TO GET OUT THERE & CATCH FISH ON YOUR OWN BOAT, ESPECIALLY WITH HIS SON. I AM NEW TO THE OFFSHORE STUFF & I AM TRYING TO KEEP UP WITH THINGS MYSELF. WITH THE MANY RULES, IT IS EASY TO MAKE A MISTAKE. ALL I WAS SAYING IS IF HE DID HAVE THE SPECIES W/ A MINIMUM SIZE LIMIT, I'M SURE HE WOULD LIKE TO KNOW FOR NEXT TIME. I KNOW I WOULD. I WAS ALSO LOOKING FOR CLARIFICATION FOR MYSELF.

NO NEED TO GET OFFENDED DELKINS. I WASN'T TRYING TO DO THAT.

THANKS TO G&H FOR POSTING THE REGULATIONS.

I don't think the man is going to accept that as an answer...

As far as I know, there are NO minimum size limits on Blackfin Tuna which these could possibly be. It's impossible to tell by the picture though.
