Went down to the Outer Banks on Wednesday with my bro Carson Mac, Mike, Peckham, and Pat(midwest transplant). We were there throught the weekend with 12 of Carsons friends and we were looking to fish 2 days.
Day 1 9/11
Left a very choppy inlet to fairly smooth seas which laid out all day. We dropped on the 720 in 50 fathoms and worked east and south until we hit green water which seems to be between to 710 to the 580. There were only about 10 boats out that day and we all seemed to work together. Sea Toy found a weedline 2 miles NE of where we dropped and it was loaded with bailers and gaffers. We kept to the southern edge of the line and ended up with 30 or so one nice gaffer about 20lbs. Was a little crazy on the line with blinding rain and heavy wind from one of many nice cells out there. We deciced to head south in search of a tuna and found a massive bait ball at the 710 in 100 fathoms. Work the mark hard and got our tuna bite. Crashed the long rigger and screamed the rod for about 5 seconds before it came unglued. Damn. Ended up down at the point where there were some BLT's caught but we didnt get one.
30 mahi, all you wanted
0-1 tuna bite
Day 2- Lay day, took the ladies to the beach in Salvo, drove right to our chill spot. Then later that night we made Carson wack a pinata while we threw water balloons at him. I have video.
Day 3 9/13
Alarms were not set correctly and we got the lines in at 900 am at the point. We were planning on working south. Instantly got hit by a sail but the angler didnt know how to drop back and he grabbed the rod before Carson could get there. A second sail came up on the flat but he also left as quick as he got there. I headed south down the 50 and we got 3 or 4 wahoo bite off's right behind the hook. We finally hit paydirt on a 30 lb hoo on a naked. Thats lucky. We moved down to the 540 where we hit the stream and a massive weedline. The current was 6kts and I could only go one kt. We were pretty much standing still and the weedline was coming at us. No more hoo's but we did get some decent sized mahi off the line.
1-4 wahoo bites
0-2 salis
plenty of mahi
Great trip, not the action we were looking for but still had some fish and lots of fun. Happy birthday to my brother Carson(30). Dude your old.
