I got all my honey dues done today by early afternoon and decided to ride down to the river and throw my cast net to see if there were any mullet or bunker running close to shore, I took my bait catching pole w/ a sabiki rig and fish bites just for grins too. Well nothing doing on the cast net mainly b/c the spot wouldn't leave the fish bites alone. I was catching them two at a time for a while. I didn't think they'd still be so far up the river(inside the jrb) this time of year. I called it quits when I put numbers 10 and 11 in the bucket b/c I keep them in a tank at the house and too many in there and they start dropping like flies.

Well anyway not sure if its normal or not but seemed a little strange to me, but there are plenty of bait sized spot(3-6") still in the river at least as of this afternoon(10/11/08). Tight Lines All

In the fall I catch small spot and croaker down at the locks in great bridge so it doesn't surprise me. I always heard if we don't get a ton of rain it stays saltier up river too. 2 years ago in the spring I was catching horse croaker and blue cats at the Jrb and we had alot of rain that winter is how it was explained to me. My sister said there were a bunch of boats fishing the jrb yesterday were they cacthing spot and croaker or rockfish ? I heard someone say last week they were catching croaker there but they didn't say what size ? You going to dunk those spot at the bridge for something a lil bigger ?

That is the plan wink.gif

Well that's good to know might have found myself a good little bait catching hole 5 min ride from my house. I heard some talk like the flounder were bitting up by the bay bridge might see if can run out there this weekend if the weather cooperates. . .
