and caught only croaker and sea bass. Had intended to fish at night, but did not pull that off. No sea bass over 11 inches. And, the croaker were only occasional....We didn't kill 'em by any stretch of the imagination. But I like to post how I do on the web site, becasue you guys seem like you genuinely try to help each other out.

From what I am seeing here, you folks, if you had to choose, prefer the Amoco Oil Rig at night over the Coleman Bridge. Is the Amoco Oil Rig a dependable place to catch stripers at night and do you have to stay out till past midnight to catch fish????

Thanks,

I HAVE NEVER FISHED THE OIL RIG. MOSTLY THE MM,HRBT,AND CBBT. YOU DO NOT NEED TO FISH AFTER MIDNIGHT BUT YOU DO NEED TO GIVE IT ENOUPH TIME AFTER THE SUN GOES DOWN FOR THE BAIT FISH TO SCHOOL IN THE LIGHTS

3point,

I have caught 2 at a time at the amoco pier at night. you need to catch the outgoing tide and get on the coleman side of the pier. cast to the pilons, but beware of the underwater cross beam supports. Use a slow retrieve. I usually use double white bucks(bought from walmart) or spec rigs(also found at walmart) which are similar to the double white bucks. fish the tug tie ups. you cant miss them on that side, plenty of light. I havent had any luck out front in the bright light for some reason, but back side of the pier is the place. I just got my LU back on and did a test run friday night. No fishing because of the damn wind. I will be out there soon.....

If you see a 21' Trophy CC with a T-top and JRC radar thats me.....

and i have never been there past midnight except last year when i had to stay to keep the rock i had on the boat..to make opening season day.

Good luck and tight lines.

animal-smiley-077.gif Can you anchor at the pier? I like to anchor and use menhaden to chunk for them. Do you ever get run off or asked to keep your distance from the pier? I have never fished the York before because I always lived in Hampton and had my boat at Sunset Marina so it was a very short run to the HRBT and the MMBT. Now that I live in Yorktown and trailer my boat I am trying to learn more about fishing the York River and its tributaries. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Gil
