My buddy and I are going to try and catch some Speckled trout this weekend. We have never fished Lynnhaven before and wonder if anyone might give us some general information on the area. Are there any dangers to be aware of?
We plan on throwing grubs and cut bait. Should we expect any puppy drum to be around?
I'm not asking for your hot spots, just a little guidance.
Thanks.

there are some pretty tricky sandbars and oyster reef back in there. just watch the water and depth finder. I went out Monday before the wind got too bad (20 mph) ended up going back by the narrows and long creek. I got a few small specks, but was surprised by the puppy drum all over the place. I used a couple of different methods; Casting jigs with grubs, jibs w a popping cork, caught a nice trout like that and some slow trolling. I hear that some bunker is the way to go though. Good luck and let us know how you do!!

i went last weekend and caught a couple mullet in the cast net. i used fresh cut mullet and had a puppy drum on ever cast. they seem to like fresh over the frozen stuff in the store though. i will be out there this weekend in a yak going for the puppy drum again.

are you guys catching the pups from the shore or back up in the creeks with boats/yaks?

Thanks to everyone who replied. We ended up having problems with the small outboard motor and had to change plans. See our other post for details.

went out in a yak. it is the way to go back in the lynnhaven. at low tide i did see three guys wading out to the stick marsh. they were casting grubs it looked like. they did very well on the specs.
