We left Kiptopeke early Friday morning with hopes of drifting for some Flounder near buoy 18. We got no action. We slid over to the Highrise and tried the same with no results. We started trolling for Stripers after this. We pulled a daisy chain of 1/4 ounce, white bucktails on one rod and a stretch on the other. We got no results with that either. We finally decided to put some bait on the bottom near the fourth island. We ended up catching several small puppy drum, lots of Black sea bass, and an undersized Flounder. It saved the day for us.
We noticed a lot of people togging by the bridge so on Saturday we added hard crab to our bait cooler. We tried casting Striper plugs to the Rocks first - No takers. As the tide fell out, we pulled up to a piling and started dropping pieces of crab. We did pretty well here. We put 5 nice Togs in the cooler, along with a decent puppy drum, some nice sea bass, and one giant Trigger fish. We had several missed bites and lost a very nice tog at the boat. After the tide started running too fast, we went back to the Fourth island and caught some more seabass and puppy drum. At dusk, we cast to the rocks and ended up with three Stripers.
It was a good weekend of fishing!
