Might want to venture out to the FISH HOOK to try for some BFT Saturday AM, thinking this time of year, water temps and all might be a good idea to buddy boat it...I've got a 28CC with curtains, might bundle up and head out of Rudee...not that far of a run to the FH...plan on trolling some Islanders WWWTFB and maybe some Hoos and a Natural and a R/W Cedar plug or two on a downrigger...anybody thinking the same thing I am...this is NOT A SURE THING YET...just testing the water...
I can run at 30-32MPH but would rather cruise at 26-28...
All I have is TLD 25s on customs and Monster Spins...might try jigging too...I know I'm a little undergunned but I've done pretty good on YFT with them before...just not quite that big...thinking fish in the 100+ lb range...

Beach, TLD 25's wouldn't be my first gear choice for a 100 lb BFT, but they should work ok. You're in shallow water and can run them down if you have to. If you were in the deep they'd just head for the bottom and spool ya. Good luck!
Customerprices, I didn't know that Carolina Skiff made a CC, let alone an Offshore Series. If it's as stout as their skiffs, it's gotta be built like a tank. Hope to see you at the Frostbite Challenge, our striper tourney in January, and the Bluewater Classic, our Offshore tourney in August. Come on out and play! And let us know about those BFT. Catch 'em up!

This school of BFT have been mean spirited in this colder water, all the boats I have talked to said its been taking upwards of 2 hours to get them in the boat. Their are techniques you can use to get big Tuna up to the boat faster though. One way is what I call zig Zaging and no its not burning a spleef before you fight the fish,Ok. Zig Zaging is switching angels on the fish if you change the fulcrum the fish cant stay in one position usually at a right angle to your line this is when they have the most leveridge to pull against you. If you switch the angle or your rod tip way to the Right then way to the left hence zig zaging. This disrupts the fishes fighting rythem and usually in 15 to 20 minutes you can get them turned to the vertical position and pull them up to the boat.Always Gaff from above and have a second Gaffer ready.

Alright ladies and gentlemen here is the report,
Found out our Hoe bailed on us at the boat ramp at 340... Oh well, we're here... Might as well.. Team NO SHOW, living up to its name, & the Flying scud, headed out with a skeleton 2 man crew u/w @ 345 trying to get the early bite, fish first light, do battle with, kill, and capture a giant tuna with 2 people, and be back for the 100 turkey kick off... No problem eh?? Seas were glassy slick calm, real nice. Crispy cold. Seemed perfect. With some time to burn we trolled out the inlet and down the beach a bit trying to pick up some rockfish or bluefish, but nothing. Picked up and hauled a$$ @ 430 to 1/2 way between fish hook and hotdog. Put out spread by 600ish, naked left long wwwwb, b/w islander left short wwb, and basically the same combo on other side... 1 naked on left downrigger, and r/w sea witch on right DR- Trolled all morning working out towards hotdog and fingers..nada- tried switching out a few colors with pinks and greens - There were a couple other boats out there in our area.. Nobody was seeing anything, no bites, nibbles, nothing. No marks, no bait, no dolphins, no nothing.. We trolled till around 1030 and were about 40 out.. Hate getting skunked but the action was not worth deviating from original plan to be back by 1 so we decided to call it. packed up and headed in. about 20 miles off we came up on hundreds of birds dive bombing something. We had thrown out all our bait, (idiots) and packed up all our gear... so we just threw out some stretches, zuris, and spoons.... not even 30 seconds after the first rod in she starts singing. We had found some monster BlueFish.. 15-20lbers.. rigged up a few lighter weight rods with some bucktails and wore out some blues for an hour or so till we had enough. gotta say hats off to the big bluefish, they are some furious fish, airing out and battling hard to the end.. So, No bluefin tuna, but the skunk was successfully removed in the bottom of the ninth and we had some decent pullage for our hardcore effort. Thanks be to the dive bombing birds..
Till next time-

Glad the Bluefish helped safe the day...congrats!! those big blues can be a blast! Now you know..never dump all your bait until you get in the inlet. Also be careful fishing for stripers and then going offshore. If you box a striper and carry him out and get caught..big dollar fine, even if you caught it within 3 miles...just a word to keep you getting in trouble.
Congrats again and thanks for the report!

Glad you got some pullage and sorry no BFT! They are a hard fish to catch when they are on the move. One day they are here and then they are there.
