hey guys looking to go to the ships for the first time next weekend. what should i use for bait? where around the ships should i fish? anyhelp would be appreciated thanks

Eels, either floated or on the bottom (Both, preferably) with heavy rigging. Don't forget to cast a bucktail or a swim-shad while you're waiting for a hit. Try to work holes at the ends of the ships where the bottom is scoured out.

thanks for the info can i drift away from the ships a bit? how deep should i put the float?

Watch the sounder and put enough line and then attach the float so your bait is just above were the fish are holding. That will entice them to a nice meal with a bit of a metal taste to it. Good luck.
