About 9 days ago, I pulled in on the Amoco Oil Rig at sundown.....7 nice schoolies immediately. The fish ran from about 19 inches to just over 22 inches....nice FAT schoolies. I will say: we caught them right away.......and they pretty much shut down for the next 3 hours.

I am a walleye fisherman who moved here 16 months ago. So, it was a lot of fun to have a little success for a change! I think my son, "Ry Fisher" on this board, already reported my catch.

Oh....it was an eventful evening! My fishing buddy and I headed in at about 9:30 p.m. for the Seaford Marina on Chisman Creek, and.....my steering broke down on my Boston Whaler 115 HP Evinrude. I have had to bleed the lines before, but had no hydraulic fluid with me...thought the steering was working great. Must be some serious problems with this steering mechanism. Anyway, had to start up the 9.9 Nissan back-up motor to get back to the dock....took a long time, becasue it was not running very smoothly.....this was an adventure. Fishing should be fun...not an adventure!

But, I finally had a little success on stripers...they were as good in the skillet as you folks rave about! I would even put them up against my beloved walleyes....and that is saying a mouthful.

When striper fishing is like this, when you catch them right away and then they shut down, do you folks have certain things you try? We tried other spots along the Oil Rig, to no avail. I was fishing with Bass Assassin 4 inch jig bodies, white with red tails. Fished them on half ounce white jig heads. Is this typical: to get all your fish all at once???

You can try and switch to a mirror lure or a yozuri to get a reaction bite or just a different color might work

I run through as much of my tackle as I can to see what they are biting on. Some nights at the Amoco pier its a no brainer though. I am glad to hear they are still there. I thouhgt they had pulled up and left the dock. I got skunked 2 nights in early dec and figured they were out of there.....looks like its time to go back.

anyways, change color, change lure weight(top water/mid water/bottom), change lure action(go from soft plastic to hard bait)

White and Chart have always been my best producers there. I cant say one is better than the other.

What was the tide doing when you were there? was it the end of the tide?

Sorry to hear about the motor. My black anchor left me at the power station this summer. I ended up busting the shift dog in the LU - not sure how, but it happened. I had to be towed in. That left me with no boat for 6 weeks and cost me some $$. I hope yours is an easy fix.
