About 9 days ago, I pulled in on the Amoco Oil Rig at sundown.....7 nice schoolies immediately. The fish ran from about 19 inches to just over 22 inches....nice FAT schoolies. I will say: we caught them right away.......and they pretty much shut down for the next 3 hours.
I am a walleye fisherman who moved here 16 months ago. So, it was a lot of fun to have a little success for a change! I think my son, "Ry Fisher" on this board, already reported my catch.
Oh....it was an eventful evening! My fishing buddy and I headed in at about 9:30 p.m. for the Seaford Marina on Chisman Creek, and.....my steering broke down on my Boston Whaler 115 HP Evinrude. I have had to bleed the lines before, but had no hydraulic fluid with me...thought the steering was working great. Must be some serious problems with this steering mechanism. Anyway, had to start up the 9.9 Nissan back-up motor to get back to the dock....took a long time, becasue it was not running very smoothly.....this was an adventure. Fishing should be fun...not an adventure!
But, I finally had a little success on stripers...they were as good in the skillet as you folks rave about! I would even put them up against my beloved walleyes....and that is saying a mouthful.
When striper fishing is like this, when you catch them right away and then they shut down, do you folks have certain things you try? We tried other spots along the Oil Rig, to no avail. I was fishing with Bass Assassin 4 inch jig bodies, white with red tails. Fished them on half ounce white jig heads. Is this typical: to get all your fish all at once???
