The latest SST images show a good warm path for the "Brown Ones" to follow all the way up to the Bay.If it stays warm someone will get lucky real soon.I bet they show up at Oregon Inlet in numbers this week.

I don't know about the Cobia from personal experience, catching them, but go for the warm waters, stay at or near the channel, I hear chum, patience, and a live fish work, try for small croakers hooked, let it swim until something bigger gets, hope for the best :-)

Reports from down south have some big cobia being taken around cape hatteras. Ive always known the rule of thumb to be that they are 2 weeks away when they hit the point, but with the temperatures going from cold to summer so quick, it might be a quicker movement this year. On the radio this afternoon I heard a couple people talking about catching a cobe, but that could just be bs. Would be nice to see them though.

I'm heading down to hatteras to try 'em Father's Day weekend. I hope they're still there. I've been told to anchor in a hole outside of the main channel and try em, or head out the inlet, depending on water temp.
Hope we come out of there with something; that's a long ride for a skunk.

Bigbites...
If you want some good basics for cathing cobia, pick up the current issue of "The Sportsman's Magazine." It is a free publication available at most every local tackle shop. Inside it this month is a good article by Dr. Julie Ball about chumming for cobia which will give you a good basis to learn from.

what kind of rig do you use for spades. ive heard people talk about clams, but how do you hook em, and what size hook, etc.

I can only speak from my personal experiences but I probably use a 2/0 or 3/0 hook with a large split shot. (sometimes I use a bober) put a piece of clam on the hook and set it out. Usually anywhere between 18 inches below the surface to the bottom. Usually stagger our lines.
Most important thing to remember is that Spade have small mouths, So do not attempt to set the hook like you would if you were trying to catch jaws. when they hit it, let them take it. That is why I prefer to use circle hooks, they set themselves without me pulling it out of their mouth trying.
Hope this helps and remember, this is only my personal opinions and what works for one may not work for another.
Happy fishing.....
DON'T FORGET, DO NOT GO OVERB0ARD WITH HEAVY TACKLE..NORMAL FLOUNDER SIZE SETUPS WITH LEAVE YOU WITH AN AWESOME FIGHT...

I'd like to know some favorite cobia hangouts that are closer to lynnhaven, not hampton. I figure like everything else they like the bridge? Also, how deep, cause there's more water out here than off buckroe. thanks

Pretty sure that I caught a glimpse of one today cruising by the CBBT. Looking into the water with my polarized shades on (after all the rain left) and a sighted a large shark-like shadow cruising on by a few feet below the surface.

i wrote some stuff about my cobia fishing in Offshore, i dont know where to type in this stuff.....
the water just north of OI on the coast is "crap", its flirting with the high fifties/low sixties, just offshore, like 4 or 5 miles out, the water was a nice 71-72 on thursday/friday afternoon, so if the line of good water temp goes all the way up youre going to get the good push of fish in a week or so, they were thick off buxton tuesday and wednesday and rodanthe thursday (friday? i get those vacation days messed up). hunt em down, chris

Talked to a buddy of mine from Oceanview who was out at Bluefish Rock today who says he sighted 2 toward the surface cruising. He said he threw some live bait and rigs in their direction but no takers. Looks like the time is almost here!

What is the basic technique for cobia fishing out of Oregon Inlet? Is it the same as here?

A guy had a small cobia on on Saturday at the Wulloughby Spit pier by the HRBT. There was a bunch of people crowded around while I was waiting to launch, and sure enough he had one on. Got it up to the pier and it got off.
