Saturday
Well, this is how it went. We left Fort Story at 4:00 and got to Wachaprauge Boat Ramp about 5:15. The temp at the ramp was 11 degrees. It was low tide so we spent 45 minutes de-icing the ramp and then the other boat with me hooked to the front of me for safety then me to them. After another 20 minutes of warming our motors we headed out of he inlet neither of us had been out of before, breaking ice as we went. Needless to say what the pucker factor was, but after around 50 minutes and 7 miles we found the ocean. We ran north and found some life lines in around 8:00 am. Then my crew breaks ice off, the boat looked like Deadliest Catch. After a while of trolling and warming up by the heater we decided to head back south. Our buddy boat headed north will we get back to the inlet we came out of and the birds were going off got lines out and it wasn't long, Bam, fish in the boat. 27.5 inches long, not what we were looking for but life. Got the buddy boat to come to us and work hard to get the keeper one 19" and one 24" around 16 under size. 3:00 comes so we head in and try to get to the scales. I know we had small fish but still had a day to fish and you never know.
Sunday
We get to Owl's Creek at 5:30. The buddy boat and us head south. Found some life but no luck trolling. We were in a group of boats, some small, and some charters when about half head south. So after a while we head south all the way to the Corolla Light House, not sure what happened to the other boats. Well I do know what happened but not going there. Found some good mark, just everything had lockjaw. Worked our way back north with no luck. We ended up at Rudie Inlet at 2:15 to a nice group of birds, but still nothing. Just wasn't our weekend.
I want to thank the crew, Doug (D Furman) and Colt and Derek (Blackford Lawn care and Landscaping) the sponsor for the tournament. They worked hard in the pit. They made my first tournament a blast. Thanks G & H Crew buddy up with you anywhere, any time.
