I don't have all the details but got a call last night from Tony (Bigbluefins) on the Clear Shot. I had been invited to join them fishing yesterday- originally to try for stripers in the bay which evolved into a jigging trip as the weather looked better and better. Unfortunately, I opted to do some project work and didn't go. Tony won't be back home to post until later as he is moving the boat north for some spring/warranty work so I figured I would give the short version. They started in 650' water pulling tiles and sea bass and a mix of dogs. He said when they moved to 350' the work got a lot easier! They ended up with 24 tiles, including 12 citations, sea bass, blackbelly rosefish....the fish cleaning went on late last night. He said there were about 15 boats out in the canyon area so lets here some firsthand reports w/pics! The fishing reports have been scarce lately!

Well, its funny he came and stopped 20 yards off my stern and dropped and didnt catch anything. Then he followed us around for a hour or so.

Guess its esy to find fish when you do "drive bys" all day. He needs to do his homework and figgure things out on his own.

We had a large day on the groupers, just not where he caught us at...just rosies there.

Hey Captain Davis do you have any pictures or video of those Grouper ?

...Nice job all....I'm watching that water moving in between the Norfolk and Washington Canyon...Looks interesting to say the least....bob

Bring the pics on! I am having fish withdrawal! As far as fishing by you (and I wasn't on the boat so take this for what it is worth) I believe that may have been their first trip deep from Va Beach and part of the warranty work they have scheduled is to replace the transducer on the boat- last trip I was out with them, it blanked out after half a day and couldn't get it back on. I am all for doing your homework and finding your own place but you never know what is going on in another boat. I'll let Tony give the actuals, just thought I might get some fishing reports going. This board has always been helpful to me and I have found it to be a great group. I have even suggested that the ownership group of that vessel become a commercial sponsor to help fund this site. I don't want to bust on you and maybe I took your comment the wrong way but it sounded too much like a stab to me. Congrats on your good luck!

It wasnt meant to be a stab, but it is just "common" to come in that close and set down. If they had gotten up stream a bit, 2-300 yds no big deal, but it was funny watching them(not just the Clear Shot) follow us around or just buzz us and think they caught us on something. We were just picking at the rosies on the slope.

I can put up 1 from yesterday, but Im hesistant to put up the rest because the boat is a charter, and not a commercial account on VBSF. If you go to the other site, the pic should be up shortly. Just look Jim Brincefield and his boat.

If they were jigging there and caught, they had their work cut out for them. She was deep.

Fine looking work, Captain! I just hadn't seen them fish too close before although that is another ballgame when rockfishing with the fleet. I rarely get offshore- I don't have the boat for it. I AM glad to see some fresh pics up and reports of meat in the box.

Way to go Danny & crew!! Ben called to see if we could go, but Wade & I both were super busy(for a change). This whole working thing really interferes with my fishing! Next time guys, next time!!

Cheyl, yeah, i understand about work, I go back to the boat on tuesady myself...
It sounded like Ben did pretty good on Saturday. He earned those fish though, very tough conditions.

Kdfarmer, if its structure were fishing, its a bit different, your either on it and getting bites, or off of it and feeding the dogsharks. Yesterday we(and everyone else) were just fishin the slope, wasnt any need to be in that close to anyone. Like I said get up stream an make the same drift is just fine.

Hey, Cheryl- hows the repair job going?? You got some nice weather going but now you say that dag-gone work is getting in the way. Get that boat back in the water where she belongs- and you and wade along with her! Work when you have nothing better to do and the fish aren't biting! Uh, speaking of work, though, do you all do anything with boat names? I talked to you once on some lines for a truck camper (that my boat went through in the cbbt) but ended up repairing with diamond plate instead of putting new filon on. I have a name for my boat- but no one else can see it!

kd,
I sent you a pm. As far as the boat goes, on hold until we get the new tank back so as for now, working on the house in Deltaville.
