First of all thanks for the free demo...I love the charts and can't wait until you get the turbidity worked into the equation...it says 1 May ??....Couple of questions..

Is there a way to change the cursor readout to show TD vice LAT/LONG when moving over an area of water ?

The looping ability of the chart shots is fantastic....

Thanks for the Demo and will definatley use it next time I go offshore and keep playing with it....Bob

Wish I would have seen this before I already paid oceantemp. Looks Great! oh well, next time.

Hi bobdu11,

Unfortunately there is no easy way to get loran TDs using the mouse over flash application because loran td lines are not linear, i.e. they are not equally spaced and they are curved. Any chart provider that shows straight, evenly spaced TD lines are just averaging the results. Chart plotters have sophisticated software using algorithm formulas to do the conversion, which is beyond the capabilities of an online flash application.

Regarding the turbidity charts - we do have them posted in a static HD format and will continue to do so until our HD² interactive interface is completed. Turbidity data comes from the MODUS satellite and we only get 1 shot per day - compared to the 8-10 SST shots we get from the 5 POES satellites. Many of the turbidity shots are cloud covered or otherwise unusable so we are lucky to be able to post 1 or 2 good shots per week.

Thanks for looking and let us know if you have any other questions.

cool...thanks for the information..one more question....will there be a way to plot course and distance between two points....

Also..I see there is a date stamp for the chart, can you put a "time stamp" so we can know what time of the day that particular chart was updated...

I"m really liking the charts...Bob
mike@sstol
Hi Bob,

Yes - we are working on a distance/bearing function that should be ready in a couple of weeks.

As far as the time goes, we update everyday between 11PM and 2AM or so and if we get a better image we will post a new chart mid-day. I know that doesn't tell you exactly when the satellite pass was made so we are considering including an AM and PM designation to let you know if it is an a early or late day shot you are looking at.

Thanks.

Mike
bobdu11
great thanks for that answer.....Plan on using your SSTOL for our trip this Saturday.....

I have another question....what is the time frame for your service....a couple of the other services stop around november December and then don't really ramp up again until around May...was wondering if you post charts year round ?...thanks....Bob
mike@sstol
Bob - we post charts all year around however our daily update service runs 4/15 - 11/15. During the "off" season we post a shot or two a week, depending on weather conditions, and operate on demand. If a member needs a shot on a particular day, just send us an email and we will post an update if it is available.

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

Mike

Mike,

Looks like you've got your turbity charts active now (?)......the little finger of warm water that is spinning off the stream behind the Cigar...looking at the turbity charts it is yellow, so does this mean the water is dirty ?....the stream proper appears to be blue, meaning clear...am I right ?....Bob

Hi Bob - we have the turbidity charts up in a non-interactive format. We should have the interface done in the next couple of weeks - similar to the SST charts.

You are right - dark blue is the clearest water, then light blue, green, yellow, orange and red. We will have a turbidity range scale when the interface is done.

Thanks.

Mike

PS - The VBSF demo period expires tomorrow 5/1 - Thanks to everyone for their comments, suggestions and support during our transition to the new HD² charts. We have incorporated many of your suggestions into the new site. We are still working on the distance/bearing interface and the turbidity chart interface but they will be done in a few weeks. We hope to welcome many of our new VBSF friends to the site as SSTOL members. If you are interested in signing up at discounted rate please use this link.

And, if you would like to fish with us in Hatteras on CLEAR SHOT, we are offering special deals for SSTOL members - contact Capt. Tony at 443-235-9696 for dates and details!

Alright...I normally use Oceantemp but I think I'm gonna go ahead and give SST OL a shot this year...thanks for the Demo and looking forward to the season...Bob

Bob,

SSTOL is happy to announce that the distance/bearing feature is now available on the interactive SST charts. Althought the VBSF free demo period has expired, you can check it out on our SAMPLE page.

Thanks for giving it a try.
