WILL BE TAKING SOME YOUNG FISHERMEN OUT OF LYNNHAVEN THIS EVENING OR EARLY IN THE MORNING. ANY SUGGESTIONS ON A GOOD AREA TO TRY FOR SOME CROAKERS? THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR THE INFO.

We picked up some nice ones while fishing for flounder around the Yancey and the small boat channel. On an incoming tide, drift about a mile of bridge near the small boat channel on the Bay side. There is an oyster bar there that seems to hold croakers better than any other spot I've seen.

Has anyone had any luck near HRBT or MM? (Need a short run from Portsmouth City Park.) We are participating in Wish-A-Fish on Saturday, and definitely want to find the kids some fish. biggrin.gif

When I want fish bad, I go inside the MM on east side of the channel (I think the there is a red buoy about a mile inside the MM on ride side of the channel going up the James. use bloodworms and enough weight to stay on there bottom no matter how hard the tide is running. Best results on incoming tide about two hours after mean low. Have fun with the kids.

If you want croakers, hit the Hampton Bar or anywhere along the HRBT. If your boat isn't too big you can launch at Willowby Spit. I've fished the area the last couple weeks and you can't catch anything else (except rays) for all the croaker bites. There are some pretty good ones there too. We got a 2 pounder last Friday.

Between the bridges on the Norfolk side of the HRBT has been producing lots of large horse croaker. Bottom rigs with squid and about 4 oz- 6oz is all you need. Great fun for the kids!!
