Interesting day on Wed. at the Tower.
Anchored up in perfect position at 0645 and chumed up a swarm of large spades. Not one bite in 3 hours. They were simply not feeding. There were about 30 boats with us --same result. Incredibly fustrating. What do you do in this case? Plenty of nice fish but no takers.
We left for the high level and were stopped and boarded my Va. Marine Police, inspecting on behalf of NOAA. They asked me three times if there were any fish on board and then boarded and inspected every fish box and the boat documentation. They were very courteous but thorough. If you are in the area I suggest being legal on the fish and have all boat documents in order.
We proceeded to high level, roasted in the sun and caught a limit of small grey trout- best bait small silver sting silver.

Good job on the grays!! I've heard from others that the spades still have lockjaw. What's up with that???

last weekend was definatly tricky with them. We ended up with 5 but you had to almost force hook them when you saw them take it in for a taste. Otherwise, all they did was spit it back out and swim away. Also had to sit the hook just at the point that it was almost not visible from the surface. Almost seemed as though they got were scared away by the boat. Once we figured this out, we were the only boat around us having any real success.
