What a weekend !!!
Had a invite to fish with Mike ( conch ), and his buddy Steve.First of all let me bow down and thank Mike for the ride, hospitality, and the pleasure of fishing with him. If you don't Know, Mike is Mr Hatteras and knows everyone, so it was a treat.
Arrive at Teach's around noon on friday, boat in the water at 1pm. Off we go to do some Jigging in sporty conditions with a SE wind of 20 25 mph and 5-7 seas and yes the inlet was RANK. Hit a couple AR sites, the first one was covered in bluefish and Sharks. Had a nice Mako ( we belive ) follow a Fat albert up to the boat. Had a couple Mystery bites and decided to move on after boating a few Slammer Blues. Got to another AR site and hooked up with a monster Wreck Donkey. Get him to the boat..In the Cooler !!! These guys have never eaten amberjack before, And by god i'm gonna learn em !! White meat, Gorgeous ! Made our way home in following seas and trolled the beach for some cobia, Saw 2 and they went straight down when we threw at them. more on that later. The inlet was nasty coming in , But the 29 ft regulator of mikes made short work of it.
Day 2- Saturday, Wake up at 5:30 to hit the dock , Walk outside and it rained on us the whole damn day it felt like. Got to teach's and checked the radar and buoy reports. Saw several boats leave and several boats come back. We decided that it would be best to feed Fatbeard some breakfast so we thought out a plan. Left the inlet at 8:30 in some of the nastiest weather i have ever fished in. if you don't go, you don't know. Headed offshore to get our troll on in stacked up 5=7 seas with a few 9's thrown in for good measure. Got to the spot to find that our ballyhoo was pooped out of a whale earlier that day and no good to troll, so we cut strip baits with albies and bluefish, and commenced to whoopin ass on big gaffer mahi !!! we did lose some at the boat do to sea conditions but we managed 5 big ones in the death box. it rained, blew 30- 35 mph , took one over the bow and two over the side. But we carried on !!! Fish must be caught. Came home in following seas to a very pissed off inlet and sludged through it.
All in all a great weekend with great guys on a great boat. Mike is the King off Hatteras and i now know it ! The Cobia bite was on fire saturday. On boat caught 11 and another boat caught three in side the inlet with one being 55lbs !The are there !Cleaned fish and ate some of the best Fish Tacos ever made ( thanks guys ) and booked it home. Great times with great people on a great boat. Will post pics later.
