We are going to take a 23 Albemarle down and fish Saturday out of OI. Should be leaving the docks by 5:30. Had good success last Saturday- 14 gaffers and a few tuna. Will be looking forward to seeing some of you.

We'll be down at Virginia Beach with the families, but have hall passes to make the break down the Coast to OI. I wanted to ask the question of WIND v. WAVE?
When looking at these two features of Mother Nature and fishing out of a smaller boat, would you say 5-10 kt out of the SE is fishable for a 26ft boat? NOAA is saying 4-6 waves right now with a pretty calm wind for OI. I would imagine they would longer swells with that wind.
Just wanted to get saltier opinions than mine so that we can call the ball.
Thanks for any advice!

Water Dog will fish on Sunday.
Additionally, with regard to the PC tuna tournament - we are not fishing in it but are willing to ho out to anyone who will pay us for fishing catch reports and locations on a discreet channel.
. We are cheap and good.
If you don't hire us you can expect to loose and you will regret it.

Based on the weather I am looking at - I think you are OK here.
I generally pay more attention to "out to 20 miles" outside of OI - than the offshore report forecast - unless it is calling for high seas to the southeast. The forecast area for the offshore forecast is so large as to basically render it useless. A swell can present some issues in traversing the inlet itself - but it is usually mangeable on a SE wind - plus I went thru there last Wed and the bar is dredged-off (for the time-being at least, so it is not as bad right now as I have seen it. If it blows up some while you are out there - to the point you are not comfortable-come home-no disgrace in that.
Hope this helps.

Good luck on your maiden voyage Doug, and Cheryl- how is that project coming?? The last time I talked to you and wade, the tanks were expected at any time. No new problems, I hope! You must all 3 (you, wade and the boat) be going through withdrawal!

The planets have aligned. I haven't seen a weather report this good since last summer. Team Cool Change is pulling out of Smith Mountain Lake, VA and rolling 460 eastbound Friday morning for the 280 mile tow to OI. So is my friend with his rig.
Oh how I'm gonna make fish pay for a pent up winter!
It's gonna be a slaughter fest blood bath on the deck of the change.
See you Saturday morning Bob.

Catch them up guys... I am sidelined with our aniversary and daughters birthday. First time I'll be home for my daughters birthday since she was born, she's going to be eight. Always been deployed or on a training mission somewhere. Wasn't even going to ask for this weekend, so we're going to Bush Gardens. Doesn't surprise me the weather is going to be AWESOME!
