We left Rudee Inlet around 0520 with 3 foot seas that layed down to about 2 feet once we reached the Cigar. After viewing the Rutgers site several times our intent was to reach the 75 degree water SE of the cigar. Well, that never happened. We went about 20 miles past the cigar and never got above 64 degrees. Most fish were concentrated around 100 feet with a depth of 300 or so near the cigar or just prior to it.

As for action, we had a fish on a spoon that was rigged on a downrigger at 60 feet. That one got off quickly. A ballyhoo was chopped in half off the starboard rigger (probably a bluefish), and I had two large fish swirl repeatedly behind the transom where I ran 2 large spreader bars. I believe they were Bluefin Tuna, but it's hard to say.

I know that everyone has been fishing OI, but I thought I'd do a little recon to see if the tuna are moving this way. I'm considering a trip to OI tomorrow, but since I've never launched there before I could use some company if a boat wants to buddy up. Also, do I need a seperate license to fish out of NC if my boat is licensed in VA and my tuna permit is current? Any help would be appreciated.

Good luck out there.

You and everybody who fishes with you out of NC needs a NC Fishing License which you can get a this Link

http://www.ncwildlife.org/fs_index_01_license.htm

The OI fleet usually leaves around 0500 - 0530...you should follow somebody out the first time because it's definately a tricky inlet...Good luck...Bob
