Man..what a great day....dogs woke me up around 0600 as they usually do....fed the dogs, drove down to Rudee to see how the water looked and man did it look nice and smooth.....came home, checked some conditons (temp breaks, buoy data for winds and such) and everything was looking too nice to hang around the house today....so about 0730 I said what the hell let me make a couple of calls and see what I can get going....Called trusty Otter and he said he had a few arrangements to make but he would call me back....10 minutes later he's a go...call Voodoo and Don..Don's in Pirates cove still...mark didn't answer his phone....so shit, me and Otter....we need to get Ice, Gas, load the boat, get the bait in the cooler, get my rigs ready.....anyways, underway from Owls creek at around 0940ish.....My mark was 72 Nautical miles SE at the 050 line in 800 fathoms.....we put still think'n in the wind and a cople of hours later we find the break and the fleet...
Otter and I start Rigging baits and by 1230PM we've finally got a spread out, beautiful blue water with a 64 - 72 degree break....scattered weeds and lots of life.....about 1250 the first Mahi hits and then it's pretty much on from then on out....I think we had about 14 hits and we boated 7 nice Gaffers....had a Toothy critter of some kind lazer one of my G&H sea witches.....never saw it as we were fighting other Mahi.....but we did see a Mako get boated close to where we were....
Ran into Neal (Wired up) on their way up from Hatteras, they stopped for a couple of hours and got in on the Gaffer action.......
So great weekend despite the trailer issues...now I"m looking forward to Pirates cove....not just the tourney but hanging out with some cool people...should be seeing Conch27, Colt (firefighting fisherman), Tony (I hope)....Don, Dave, Kent, and anybody else who happens to be in the area....we'll be in a slip somewhere so if you see us stop by and have a beer.....
