Here's some more ......... Virginia 's first billfish of 2009 has been released!!! It happened aboard VBSF sponsor the KnockDown (Aquaman) on Sunday. They were fighting two gaffer's when the Blue exploded on a long rigger and preceded to dump a 50W. Captain Nolan turned and chased the fish at 15 kts and narrowly escaped being spooled (they literally saw gold at the bottom of the spool). They continued the fight for more than 1.5 hours and finally got the leader. They were able to get the fish close to the surface before popping the light 130# tuna leader. They estimated the fish between 400 and 500#s. They also had 30 gaffer Dolphin up to 26#s and three Yellowfin Tuna to 37#s. They missed numerous gaffers and had at least a dozen tuna bites.

30 gaffers, 3 YFT and a 400#+ marlin would be a great report anytime of year. Way to stay with the fight after near spool being dumped by marlin! Looks to be the beginnings of a great year. Just add warm water and calm sea's for us little guys.
