I've completed a year now of "Floundering Around"

on the bay and I'm ready to start trying to target some fish. Spade fish seem to have the potential for a lot of fun. Could anyone please share some tips and locations to give it a try?
Also, I have heard that the new clam flavored Fish Bites work for the spades. Anyone had any luck with them?

Best bet is CLT early AM, I've done best on Red Diaichi Circles loaded with Clam freelined back into a chum slick...
My favorite chum...
5 gal. Bucket
5-6 cans of cheap Jack Mackerel
Old Baitfish chopped in a blender
2 large cans of cheap oatmeal
2 quarts of Clam Juice...
Mix this all well the night before...grab a cup or so at a time and drop into the water...its a heavy thick mixture so it sinks down a little adn then starts to drift back...freeline your baits into the cloud of bait and hang on...I've never published this chum recipe before...it kills'em...DONT GO TOO HEAVY on the chum...a cup or so every 5 to 10 minutes will keep them interested...

I appreciate the tips and will have to make up (or maybe buy) some chum. How far out is the CLT? I've only got an 18' Sea Pro, not sure I want to venture out too far. Any particular area to look along the CBBT?

CLT is about 18 miles off V.B. You can also catch Spade fish around the Island of the CBBT and other pieces of structure in the bay or ocean.

We go a little futher north. Twenty or thirty miles
and put out at gwens island or poquoson . There
are three good places to go .All are popular and
reachable by a 17' cc. on a decent day. caught
a couple of 8lbs'ers and missed a bigger one
into somebodies anchor ropelast thurs.at the
wolftrap lt. plus a bonus 33.5"10lbs 15oz.grey
trout. The Yorkspit lt. and cell are the other two.
