The regs clearly state that measurements are from the tip of the NOSE to the tip of the tail. I always measure from the tip of the flounder, which is the tip of the lower jaw. I am sorely tempted to start following the letter of the law, which would have enabled me to come home with at least a dozen more fish than I have so far. However, I don't think that will go over well with the finest on the water. Anyone ever try this tactic and actually have it work? Any legal eagles care to comment?

I'm confused. Wouldn't measuring by the nose make the fish shorter, therefore, you keeping less fish?

I agree, measuring from the bottom lip would make the fish longer than measuring from the nose. Just think about it, you're measuring the length of the fish. So measuring from the furthest point of the fish on opposite ends would be the accuate means of measurement. I don't think it really matters which is furthest from the tail as long as it is an accurate and honest measurement.

I'm not trying to be smart or anything, that just seemed to be the easiest way of explaining my thoughts.thanks.gif

Thanks. Over 150 flounder this year with 3 keepers - it ain't right. At least the bait is getting bigger... that means I'll be keeping the small ones off the hook. It's just darn frustrating to catch 18.99" flounder and have to throw them back.
