Its a shame they had to kill it.Did it die ?I hate seeing them hang.It looks like it might have hit his head on the prop.
RocknRobin
Don Indicated it died while they were fighting it. That is a shame for a real big one like that!

Fellas,
I don't understand the comments here, why is it a same, you don't keep something this big?
Mega Bite
Because Grander Blue Marlin are rare like a Bengal Tiger ,but a fish. That fish isnt good to eat infact the meat is awful.I dont want to start a big thing about it we have already done it several times before.I just think its a shame for a 900lb Blue to be killed just to bring it back for a glory show.If it died then thats one thing but if they killed it thats another.Just my 2 Cents. No we would cut the leader at the side of the boat after a few photos maybe film the fight but definately wouldnt keep any Billfish on my boat. Thats all I am going to say on this thread.

Mega Bite,
Thanks, I didn't know that and if ever the chance, the one I catch will live to swim again.

Not only that, but the big ones are the females. Kill them and future billfisherman sit at the dock telling stories.

I'm with Mega as well on the marlin issue. I don't even target marlin when fishing. I truly hope the angler enjoyed his catch, however, I hope he understands the impact.

Ditto for me. Let the blue one live to fight another day. If it died during the fight then that can't be helped. However, there been quite a few blue ones caught down that way over the years that were brought back to the scales because they "died duirng the fight". I question whether all of those fish died from exhaustionand couldn't be revived.

By the way, if it were a 175 lb yellowfin it would be coming back home for a neighborhood cookout.

I was on the dock when they weighed it, down there cobia fishing. It was killed during the fight. The mate told me it took them 1 1/2 hours to get it in. It was a shame to see it hanging there. definitly impressive, but a little sad.

evidently during one of the fish's runs its tail got looped and the fish was drug. the fish died while they were trying to bring it in, hence the relativly short fight for a fish that big.

BILL FISH ARE CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY...now if it dies thats another story...I personlly like the Certified Observer concept for all Tourny's too...but while it did seem to take off for a while its loosing steam I think...

News paper today mentioned a 900 pounder caught on the fish n Fitz.

It said it was released. Also mentioned a few white marlin releases too.

Listen the only time they kill them is for a kill tourny. The bigger the marlin the more of a chance that they die during the fight. That is when the boats bring them in because they are already dead. A marlin that is 400 pounds or bigger has a 1 in 10 chance of living through the fight. It is a shame that it happens but it does. I know a lot of charter captians and believe me, they do everything they can to keep the fish alive.
