Since all of my crew had plans on the 4th and two of my buddy Maury's crew backed out I decided to jump on his rig so we could at least get a three man together for a trip. We decided to stay inside on the 3rd as the wind was stiff and we left the plug to the boat in Roanoke. He had his boat at Marine Electronics for a couple of weeks getting the new Lowrance HDS-10 installed. Man is it ever sweet with the Sirius saClick to view attachmenttelite imagry overlays so you can see the temp breaks live from the boat.
On the 4th we were off and headed to the Point where we immediately hook up on a bailer that manages to get the whole leader wound up in the starboard prop. After some tugging and cussing I stripped down dove in and unwound the mess. Weird feeling with my toes hanging down over 600 ft of water with all the big toothy stuff I've seen over the years. We get things back out and couldn't find a tuna and didn't see anyone else doing much either. I saw a temp break on the machine and we cruise away from the fleet and over to it when the short pops free with nothing and then the long comes tight with a nice Sailfish. We ended up hitting a wreck on the way in and smoked all the AJ's we could stand on the new butterfly jigging eqip.
