We fished Saturday as our day for the VB tuna tournament. We went back and forth trying to decide where to go: go after the bluefin at the 26 mile hill, go south to the cigar or go the canyon where there were some reports of bigeye being caught. We ended up making the run to the south wall of the canyon running through a hard 4-6 swell from the east. Good thing we rolled out around 4am because the last 15miles were right sporty slowing us down quite a bit. Lines in at 7:30 and we proceed to troll along the wall and out south heading down the 100 fathom line. The fishing was very slow and we could not keep any fish on the line. We ended up with 1 for 9 on hookups (and the one was a short yft who decided to hit the planer bait as we were bringing lines in). We did have two good runs from decent size fish but 1 bent the hook after peeling off 1/3 of a 50 (this was on a squid chain) and the other came unhook from the tiki bar. We have no clue what they were. The run in was great with the swell at our back until we get to the light tower. The wind must have been 15-20 giving us a rather wet ride in with the wind spray. Overall had a great time and thanks to the guys with the VB tuna tournament, they definatley put on a great tourny.
