Wade & I fished the Whaler this weekend to try for flounder drifting the CBBT.
This was our first time doing this & I had a blast!!! Now I know why you guys are out there all the time,

Met up with Mark (VOODOO) Friday & got some of his flounder rigs & put them to the test Saturday & Sunday.

Saturday got off to a slow start, but got lines in around 1pm. Drifted the tubes & I lose 2 of the VOODOO rigs!!! & catch a few throw backs. Move to the pilings around the third island & just trying to get the hang of that type of fishing. Catch a few more throw backs. I get a nice bite & in comes a nice 22.5" flounder. My first keeper of the year!!! No camera on board sad.gif

Sunday,
I'm up bright & early catching a few spot for bait & get some minnows & off we go to the second island. WOW! We put a hurtin' on the flounder. I bet we caught 35 fish, bad thing is, only 1 was a keeper. Still a ton of fun. Wade is a little better at catching flounder than me usually, but this weekend, I wore him out biggrin.gif ! I had 5 to his 1!!! I think it was the VOODOO rigs!!!!!
We continue fishing catching between 1 and 4 shorties every drift & missing as many!! Wade yells, get the net!! Oh yeah, his rod is doubled over pretty good & he is sure it is a nice fish.......A DOUBLE HOOKUP!! Though they were both 17.5", I have never seen that before!!

End the weekend with just 2 keepers among 40+ fish, but a ton of fun, can't wait to do it again.

The 18' Whaler of Wade's is perfect for that type of fishing.... don't forget the sunscreen!!

Are you sure they are shorts? You can't see leg in the pic- maybe it is slacks, with white socks and sandals on??? Where is the rest of his "leisure suit"?? Congrats on the flounder dinners! Catch em up!
ryfisher
Salty Lady I assume you have a Boston Whaler Dauntless 18? That's what we have. Good boat.

Thanks for the plug Cheryl way to get those flatties. Tell Wade nice shorts. I will stop by with my box again this weekend and a check.

delkins,
I guess you yere in the one anchored up. it was a blast, even thought they were shorties, how did you do?

As for Wade, I told him everyone was laughing at his shorts, his reply was.."Oh, I'm a celebrity now.... cool_smiley.gif "

he gets those things from 17 street surf shop. they are light & good for the boat, but they sure are something to see!!

Where do you go to catch spot for the flounder?
SALTY LADY
off the docks in Lynnhaven w/ sabiki rigs & bloodworm. If you can throw a cast net, you can get them that way, but I have not perfected that yet, but am working on it!! cast net gives you a lot more small menhaden, but they do not live as long. we also catch pin fish,& perch. If we hook it, it goes in the live well, but we mostly try for spot. All of it was working last weekend!!

yes we were anchored and did pretty well catching them at anchor, was trying to catch some sheepshead to no avail, then started drifting in the same area caught a lot of shorts, i reconized the shorts in the post so i knew it was the same whaler
