the story goes like this....
after stopping at the fingers for 1 fat albert, we headed to the canyon. trolled from the tip to the south wall & turned north where we found a bunch of birds. after sitting a couple of marlin, we get pumped for a possibility of a chance at our first billfish!! flat line goes off....cedar plug.?....wade is hooked up for a few minutes & pulls the hook. I start working the short rigger back & forth & bam, he's on....he's gone sad.gif oh well. Frank brings upthe cedar plug & the eye is hooked. really hate to see that happen to the fish. It's a really big eye, not sure if the fish made it after that kind of trauma. no billfish today, but we'll get it 1 piece at a time laugh.gif . we did have a swarm of f.a., hooking 6 & getting & releasing 4. Same area as the marlins. decided to do a little deep dropping & picked up some blueline, 1 going citation 11lbs, 8oz. another, 9lbs, 6oz.
find Mike (fish dad) & ease in & get our first wreckfish on our boat!! Thanks Mike for letting us join you!! we owe you big time smilie_daumenpos.gif
make a couple drifts manage 3 wreckfish. wade, Bob & Frank get theirs & we ran out of time. ran in at 27 knots on calm seas. the deep dropping definately saved the day today for us!!

nice pics and report, glad you got some wreckfish we've been out there a few times and have yet to catch wreckfish. what did the wreckfish bite on? "mackeral?" does sound like you all had a good day out there and congrats. on the tilefish. thanx
SALTY LADY
the wreckfish hit the false albacore that we caught earlier. I think they will hit anything. my dad was on "BLITZ" the theirs hit squid. just put a big slab of meat on there. if you are in he right spot....he'll hit it. we used 20oz of lead yesterday. & a double rig.

Good working with you guys out there. We ended the day with 1 YFT and 6 wreckfish. Had a wahoo bite off and never even saw or raised a white. Here is a shot of your boat bottom bouncing.

Mike, thanks for the pic. I also got one or 2 of yours & I'll send it your way. I was super pumped out there, I let the guys catch the fish, it was Frank & Bob's first time deep dropping, so I let them have all the fun, but I was still wound up!! Got to love it when a plan comes together. Dad was on Blitz & their first tme as well, everyone had a great time with a cool fish story to go back to Richmond with!!

Thanks again guys for letting us stop in there real quick and make a drop - pretty cool for a bunch that has never lugged up one of those before.
See you out there soon.

Cheryl - did you talk to Joe? We are both convinced it's a swordfish eye......there was a great article on swordfishing in the June issue of In the Bite magazine and you can get a good comparison to your picture. Pretty wild.
